2017 engineering

9th December,2016

after almost an entire semester later i've finally been able to get my website working! A bit too late now, but im am so happy! it took me so long ! I want to thank Kirk, Dr. Neat, Keilah, And my grandma for helping me get this website up and running. Ironically it was the plight of being an engineer that failed me; we engineers aren't english majors... i say that because i misspelled "engineering" on the folder name for the website link. There is no other excuses now, ive got my feet on the ground and im prepared to "make my website sparkle". I may be limited in my updates for the month of December as finals are upon us, but i will try my best. Thank you Mr. Miller and Dr.neat for being so patient with me. WARNING CHEEKI BREEKI IV DAMKE

14th December,2016

So I have created the ultimate antisemetic flying machine in this medieval sandbox style game. I call the machine the swastibomber after the shape and function of the machine

13th January, 2017

Dr. Neat was not here today, so we watched the 2017 FIRST competition video and listened to Cole, Sam, and Kevin talk about the progress we've made in the after school club.

18th January, 2017

Today was a Wednesday challenge where each group has to move a golf ball to a paper bag in the shortest amount of time possible. No person is allowed to move a ball more than once and we are also not allowed to touch the sides of the bag Our method was to simply use the 2 popsicle sticks to hold the golf ball as we transport it.

19th January, 2017

So today we received the results for the perfect cardboard square challenge in which we had to cut a perfect 1" by 1" square. My teammate was Paul. In short we won. Wednesday challenge

24th January, 2017

Its been a cold few weeks, the lowest that I have personally recorded was 30 degrees Fahrenheit, all of my neighbor's rooves were frosted. The class has begun work on the cardboard cars however I am going to work on my website and aid Keilah on the production of his own car.

26th January, 2017

We presented our ideas for the robotics handouts my group consists of Keilah, alvin, Hunter, Erin, and myself. Our idea was to make an airscrew or standard propeller, mounted on a wooden dowel that sits in a larger wooden dowel loosely. The dowel has a string wound around it with a bead on the end. The person pulls on the string quickly and the propeller flies into the air, the propeller has the # 589 written on top of it. Projected costs would be roughly around 0.40 cents.

31st January, 2017

Tomorrow my group (containing the same members as stated in the post above) is going to judge the constructive ideas of our peers as improvements to our own design

3rd February, 2017

it is friday and once again the class is getting up to speed about the Robotics competition so far. In other news electronics is almost done with the new NEW electronics board.

6th February, 2017

Success! We have lift off! The robotics handout has taken flight, now the only challenge is to make the blades easier to mold.

7th February, 2017

I must have spoke too soon, our handout project may be grounded by Mrs. Martos due too a recently implemented rule against paper air planes...sigh...

9th February, 2017

we listened to the last few presentations for the new fidget toy ideas, the section of the class that created cardboard cars also prepared to send their cars down the test ramp, I'm not sure what im doing yet. I think I'm going to make a car too but I'm not sure what design I want to go for. I may just be complaining, but I wish this class put a bigger emphasis on REAL engineering principles, no offense to Dr. Neat but this class feels more like a arts and crafts class. If I was to make a recommendation, i would suggest teaching about structural fatigue, fluid dynamics, and other engineering principles. As an example, think of an english class where you read your teacher out of the blue asks you to write an essay but you don't know how to write an essay, or the teacher wants you to write a shakespeareian sonnet but you've never read shakespeare. Thats what this class is like to the other students.

15th February, 2017

the class did the tube toss challenge while I was in the shop working on the Lucifer 1 light for the pit area. The light was originally intended to be used as a studio light. This is only a prototype and therefore isn't perfect nor finished but will complete the simple task of illuminating a general area.

17th February, 2017

Today the class was updated on the progress of the robotics team.

21th February, 2017

Today we watched the robot drive around on the field, not really impressive.

22th February, 2017

today we received the fabled letter wednesday challenge, we have to sketchup an "A" and give the file to another group to create.

24th February, 2017

Today we got the results back for the Letter wednesday challenge, my team consisting of Keilah and myself won the challenge. On a side note im planning on doing an exploration of the abandoned los Amigos/ Hollydale mental hospital. the actual name of the place differs from person to person but i found a map of the hospital that was drawn in the 1930's, the main problem i will have is avoiding the patrolling security guards and finding a way into the buildings

28th February, 2017

Here are a few photos from the abandoned hospital that Riley, Tommy, and I went to last Friday

6th March, 2017

The class learned about their grades, we apparently all suck. The grade sheet said that I haven't uploaded since the 17th :( . I just forget to upload my files but i have been updating my site the entire time. I've not been invited to go to the robotics trip because i don't have enough hours because the whole first week of the season.

15th March, 2017

Today the class packed up the Wednesday challenge chip boxes. I decided to not even bother waiting in line because everyone was grabbing tape from each other and no order was established it was a waste of 30 minutes waiting to get tape. Now im typing this to pass the time. I purchased myself a tube headphone amp, and so far it runs great, the only problem that i have encountered is the power supply. The supply is 24v at but when testing the amp under a very light load less than 0.5A the power supply flashes on and off over and over again as it turns off due to overload and attempts to restart itself.

16th March, 2017

today those who were invited to go to the Ventura competition left, and the class updated there websites for the chip challenge, i also brought in a 589 sign that my grandpa made for the team to have in the room or really any other use. i have engineering class today at GCC tonight and i have to turn in my homework which i was given 2 weeks to complete. The assignment is to create a work breakdown structure for some personal goal of mine as well as to produce a Gantt chart displaying all the times which every step will occur. The photo im going to post is that of the box as well as the original design that i was supplied with. received instructions

28th March, 2017

Over spring break i essentially stayed home and slept, it was a nice time for relaxation and overall fun. My grandma and i went on several bike rides from victory blvd to los feliz blvd which is a total distance of about 6 or so miles round trip, we were both quite rusty since we both hadn't ridden in awhile along with that i took a trip to walmart. While at walmart I found that i had to go to the bathroom so along my walk to the bathroom i had to pass by the televisions and audio equipment when i noticed a 2 pack of blank 90 minute cassette tapes, I did a double take as i didn't even know that cassette tapes are even still made. So naturally i had to buy it. I got home and made a playlist of all my favorite 80's esk synthetic pop music, then i went on over to my old amplifier that has a tape deck on it, popped it in, plugged the auxiliary plug in my phone's headphone jack, clicked record and hit play. after a few minutes i went back over to the deck and popped the tape back out. it was a fun experience making my very first mix tape. now all i have to do is buy a walkman.

30th March, 2017

Today is Wednesday and the majority of the class is still presenting on the previous challenge where we were presented with the question would you rather write out the number 1,000,000 from 0 using every digit and get an instant A in for your math class or take the math class for the full year. We concluded that it would be much more practical to take the class then to write out the entire #. Alvin's Wednesday chall form

7th April, 2017

Its Friday which means another presentation and week summary, My chip returned broken but in only 2 pieces giving me a total of 100 pts however the results of the team that received my design are unclear

10th April, 2017

Today is the first day in tormentuous block scheduling. In preparation for the days ahead Dr. Neat has asked me to send him links to cool and interesting videos that pertain to engineering or the likes. im pretty tired even though i went to bed early last night, and i have the feeling that im coming down with strep throat as I have had a sore throat for quite a long time now, so i can no longer excuse it on the basis of all the screaming done at the competition. I hope that it isn't strep throat because i dont have the time or the energy to deal with it, and i dont want to have to go to the hospital to get medication that i cant afford. 12th April, 2017

Today in class Alvin, Keilah, Erin and I worked on the redesigned shelf and Storage area; below is picture of nugget possibly the cutest game sprite ever, even with his autism. in other news im playing with my new friend the narrator david, it is possibly one of the most useless applications that comes pre installed on windows laptops.

1st May, 2017

It's been a stress filled week ive had several projects in almost all my classes from English to econ as well as 3 projects that im working on extracurricularly in my college engineering class, we just received our grades today and i had a percentage of 45 something. Im not here to get an A im just here to learn ive not had the required links for the projects because ive not been doing the projects, ive been working on the shelf and was a judge for the river boat challenge. but i have a F, the links and requirements for the websites are irrelevant to me because im not working on anything that they are dictating. i'm not out to get an A, i just want my 4 years of this class to be accounted for.

2nd May, 2017

I've begun working on my English final which is 8 pages long in duration and its due on the 20th. The topic to right about is about reason and emotion. In addition to that here is alvin

3rd May, 2017

Today's Wednesday challenge is all based on building paper air planes. Below are both the challenge and photo. plane chall

4th May, 2017

Today we finished up the last of the air plane distance tests, Erin and I have yet to receive the data from the team building our plane.

5th May, 2017

Today we had the results of the paper air plane flights from the previous days, the winner of which was simply a crumpled ball of paper, if we had been allowed more time, i think the paper ball would have lost by a long shot.

8th May, 2017

We are back from the weekend and I am not sure what project i want to work on, as of now i am assisting Keilah in his carnival style game which he is constructing for his math class. Im willing to do what ever i can to pass this class, but im not sure what else i can possibly do.

10th May, 2017

Yesterday Erin,Keilah,Hunter, and I judged the Wednesday challenge for the class. My job was to weigh out each team's payload in grams. After weighing out all of the teams, i proceeded to help Keilah with his stats project.

11th May, 2017

I have no chance of graduating if i do not pass this class with a D, because i don't have enough elective credits. I dont know what to do. 4 years of my life a waste.

12th May, 2017

Today Erin stated the results for the boat challenge. I have taken the liberty of including the file below RESULTS

15th May, 2017

Over the weekend Erin, Alvin, Keilah and I all got the green light to start construction of the new pipe and lumber storage shelf. Tonight i will be going to home depot to buy a new shop light to replace the dead one above the current shelf. below is a picture of the sketch-up, validating that I am serious about producing the shelf with my buds.

18th May, 2017

Yesterday was the blind rectangular prism assembly challenge, our class is apparently severely stupid.

31st May, 2017

This may just be the final update to my website, its been a long 4 years and i have to be completely honest, not all of it was enjoyable, but i think that's to be expected. Not everything can be fun the best we can do as people is enjoy the fun that was had, and let go of the negatives, hold the memories in high regard and forget all others as they will just weigh you down. im going to miss the good. the joy, the smiles, and the tears. All i can do is keep them with me.
